Outside Installations

  What is an outside installation?

In some cases, it may not be viable to install your new or upgraded meter inside your house. In these situations, your installer will inform you of this during your appointment and provide you with further details. They will then return for the outside installation at a later date. You are not required to be home during the outside installation.

Your meter will be located outside, at or near the underground water shut-off valve on your property. Please note that your water will be turned off for a short period of time, however, you will be notified prior to this taking place.

A hole will be dug near your property line where your water service enters your property. This is where the meter will be installed. The installer will cut into the water line to fit the meter. A small chamber will be installed around the meter and then the excavation will be filled. The chamber will be covered with a lid, which ensures that the meter is accessible for future maintenance. The completed installation will look similar to the photo above.

  Are there any special circumstances?

Most installations are straight forward. Any special circumstances for your installation are indicated below 1. Moveable Objects
The space required for the meter is quite small. In most cases, the meter will be installed without disturbing shrubbery or other landscaping. However, as necessary, Neptune will move any small objects such as bushes, small trees, small rocks, etc. The objects will be restored once the installation is complete.

2. Driveways/Sidewalks
If your service connection to the water line is located under a driveway or a sidewalk, Neptune will be required to cut into the driveway to carry-out the installation. The site will be restored upon completion.
