Why are water meters required? |

The installation of water meters is the first step of the District’s objective to move from a flat rate water billing system to a rate based more on actual water consumption. A meter is necessary to accurately measure your water consumption. Water rates based more on actual consumption create equitable billing and encourage water conservation. Under a metered rate, you will pay a small flat fee plus a metered rate for actual consumption. Reducing your water usage will reduce your monthly metered charge.

Who is installing the meters? |
The District has contracted Neptune Technology Group to install these water meters. Neptune is the most experienced water meter installation company in Canada. The meters will be installed on an area-by-area basis, which makes it imperative for you to schedule an appointment when Neptune is in your area. All residential properties on the District’s Water Systems must have water meters installed, so please call today.
Neptune installers will be uniformed and will carry identification. They are trained to make any plumbing modifications necessary for the installation and are able to adapt the meter to any size of pipe.

Does everyone have to have a meter? |
All water customers in Summerland must have a water meter installed. In order to accomplish this, residents and property owners will need to make an appointment and give the contractor access to their property for the meter installation. Any water customer who refuses to provide access to their property for meter installation may face additional charges enforced by the District.
